Great Lakes Maritime History
The Great Lakes have always linked Wisconsin to the world. From the earliest dugout canoes to scaled production of WWII submarines and now US Navy shipbuilding maritime history is imbedded in daily lives. You can learn more at the Door County Maritime Museum just north of GRB in Sturgeon Bay or the Manitowoc Maritime Museum south of GRB. Both offer interactive experiences and a full overview of living on the Great Lakes including lighthouses you can tour. If you are interested in current freighter movement on Lake Michigan, follow Sturgeon Bay Shipyard Tours and the Port of Green Bay on Facebook.
